The NOKIA robot becomes part of the company's history as the first one to be installed in one of the factories to polish frying pan handles. The NOKIA is installed in Farroupilha’s pan unit.
Another manufacturing unit opens in Encruzilhada do Sul, RS, to manufacture pine wood panels.
TDS – Tramontina Design & Services
In February, Tramontina begins operations in Houston, Texas, USA. The TDS (Tramontina Design & Services) is a unit that creates packaging, flyers, catalogs, and other graphic material designs for Tramontina USA (TUSA).
In March, Tramontina installs a sales office in the German town of Bergisch Gladbach. The first manager at this unit is Paulo Roberto Chiele.
Tramontina enters the market of stainless steel sinks and basins with the opening of a new factory in Carlos Barbosa, RS.

Opening of offices abroad
Tramontina opens Tramontina Africa (TRAF), installed in Johannesburg, South Africa, and is responsible for serving the entire African continent.
The company also opens the Tramontina Singapore (TRASING) office to serve countries in southeast Asia and Oceania.
